September 15th... The big new for Pachachaca is that it's coming. It will be arriving in the spring. Having considered their lack of farm technology and how to improve it, Project Compassion is preparing to send a "walking tractor" to Peru this spring.

This walking tractor, powered by a 14 hp diesel engine, will arrive with at least three implements, a rotary plow, a tiller, and a potato digger. The rotary plow spins and throws the soil out the side instead of merely turning it over like a standard plow would do. The tiller will be a 32" tiller so it will cover a lot of ground. The potato digger should simplify potato digging significantly.

Although those in Pachachaca only have a bit of information so far, what they know is creating excitement.

The walking tractor will be available on a rental basis, so our Project Manager in Peru is meeting with individuals in Pachachaca to locate one or two people who would serve as our rental person(s).

PowerPoints are being created and translated into Spanish detailing every aspect of the walking tractor from how to start it to how to change the oil because everything is new since they have no mechanical equipment currently. With over 400 slides containing colored photos of the walking tractor, we're making plans for teaching them how to use the walking tractor. With our new computer lab in place, these PowerPoints will be an excellent method of teaching them about the tractor before they learn through hands-on training.
