Hi, I'm Mari from Pachachaca, Peru...
I'm ten and my responsibility is to feed the chicken or bring in the bulls at night or tie up our two pigs.
I don't know what life is like where you live, but I think I'd like to live there. Life here is tough. I eat potato soup for supper, dinner, and breakfast almost every day, not because I like potato soup, but because it's all my family can afford. If you don't believe me, ask Pastor Jeppesen, the Coordinator for Project Compassion, because he lived in my house for over two weeks in June 2011.
But things are changing in my town because of Project Compassion. We have a new computer lab in our school. It's the best thing that's happened in years!
My Dad is talking about something called a "walking tractor" that's going to change how he works the soil. Most anything would be better than a pick axe or our two bulls.
I don't understand all that's happen here, but I'm really glad Project Compassion found us!
Our Mission is to create pathways and tools whereby those living in extreme poverty can be empowered to create a better life for themselves.
Our focus is on purchasing and creating computer labs to enhance education especially among the children.
Also advancements in farm technology is another major focus including crop fertilizer, establishing family guinea pig businesses to increase their income, micro-financing to expand their opportunities, and the introduction of a walking tractor as a major advancement in soil preparation.
Our hearts go out to those who must "survive off the land," to those we call our friends.
A series of "challenges" enable you to become part of our efforts as we enable our friends in rural Peru to create a better life for themselves.
